Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi and Azimio leader Raila Odinga will deliver a joint address on the status of the African Union Commission chairmanship.

The address will be aired from Mudavadi’s offices at the Kenya Railways Headquarters.

According to the Prime CS’s office, the presser will be on the progress of Raila’s campaigns for the African Union Commission (AUC) chairmanship post.

Mudavadi, who serves as Kenya’s Foreign and Diaspora Affairs CS, has been actively complementing President William Ruto’s efforts to sell Raila’s candidature on the continent.

Raila declared his bid for the AUC chairmanship in February this year.

He is seeking to replace Moussa Faki of Chad as the new AU Commission chairperson.

The Azimio leader has since been meeting with leaders from Africa and internationally to discuss his AU bid.

The elections will be held in February 2025.

Ahead of the vote, the aspirants have until August 6, 2024, to submit their CVs to their respective countries, statements of vision, and how their mechanisms of addressing the unending challenges in Africa.

The next AUC chairperson is set to come from East Africa following a decision by the AU Executive Council.

Countries from Northen Africa would produce the deputy chairperson, with the remainder regions; Central, Southern, and Western Africa producing the six commissioners.
