ODM Party leader Raila Odinga has called on his kinsmen to pray for his success in the race for the African Union Commission’s top seat

ODM Party leader Raila Odinga has called on his kinsmen to pray for his success in the race for the African Union Commission’s top seat.

Speaking at a gathering with his Sakwa clansmen from South Nyanza at his late father Jaramogi Oginga Odinga’s home in Nyamira Kang’o village within Bondo sub-county, the opposition leader expressed confidence in Africa’s ability to handle its own issues without dependence on Europe.

Odinga stated that his primary goal in pursuing the leadership position is to help reduce Africa’s overreliance on European countries.

Nairobi Governor Johnston Sakaja, who attended the ceremony, praised the former Prime Minister for seeking the blessings of his clansmen, calling it the best foundation for prosperity. He assured Mr. Odinga of his unwavering support, stating that the Azimio leader is the most qualified candidate for the African Union Commission chairmanship.

Kisumu Governor Prof. Peter Anyang’ Nyong’o addressed concerns that Kenya might lose some of the gains achieved through Odinga’s efforts should he take up the role at the African Union Commission. He reassured Kenyans that Mr. Odinga would remain available for consultation on issues affecting the country, and urged the public not to worry.

During the meeting, which was dubbed the Sakwa Reunion, Odinga’s clansmen from both South and Central Nyanza, led by Migori Governor Ochilo Ayacko, offered prayers for him as he embarks on his journey towards continental leadership.

Raila Odinga’s bid for the African Union Commission’s top seat has garnered significant support from his community and political allies, who see his leadership as pivotal in addressing Africa’s challenges and promoting self-reliance.
