Raila Odinga's aide and bodyguard George Oduor dead
Former Prime Minister Raila Odinga’s long-term aide and bodyguard George Oduor is dead.
He passed away on Wednesday, April 2, at the Nairobi West Hospital where he had been receiving treatment.
Oduor, a familiar figure often seen alongside Raila at political rallies and public events, had been admitted to the hospital for the past two weeks.
Oduor’s close relationship with Raila spanned many years, earning him recognition not only as a loyal aide but also as a brotherly figure within the political circles of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM).
Following the tragic news, tributes poured in from political leaders and associates following the news of his passing.
Kileleshwa MCA Robert Alai tweeted on X, “George Oduor, rest in peace, my brother. I will miss your wise counsel and guidance. You were more than an aide to Baba. You offered to us brotherly advice and sought to mentor us.”
ODM Communications Director Philip Etale also mourned the loss, describing Oduor as a steadfast friend and confidant.
“This is one man who stood by me at all cost. I have lost a friend. Rest easy George,” Etale said in an emotional statement.

On the other hand, United Green Movement (UGM) party co-leader Neto Agostinho recalled his past interactions with Oduor.
“Breaks the heart! Rest you in peace,George Odiwuor. Loyalty as it comes. Met him in 1984 in the tenement where we lived in Homabay. He was together with a group who had been sent away from the military in the 1982 coup! Our paths reconnected when I worked for the Constant Garderner Trust in Kibera.
“He was to be a key support system in my by-elections engagement in the ODM nomination of September 2012. He remained invaluable in my entire period as an MP in the ODM Party. Dependable. Loyal and all those virtues you need in an Aide. My Condolences to Raila Odinga and the ODM party fraternity. George Odiwuor till we meet again at Jesus feet,” he said.
