Raila led ODM party set for nationwide membership drive ahead of 2024 grassroots polls to boost its chances in 2027 elections.

The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party announced its plans to enlist new members nationwide in an effort to improve its declining status and fortify it in advance of 2027.

Party leader Raila Odinga who made the announcement Friday is set to launch the drive Saturday in his Siaya backyard.

The launch is aimed at shoring up its numbers, an exercise that will culminate in grassroots elections scheduled for early next year.

“I want to convey greetings to all our members across the country, we are approaching the end of the year and we have decided that this time we are going to launch the recruitment of new members,” he said.

“We want to give an opportunity to those younger people who have never had an opportunity to register to do so,” he stated.

On Monday, Raila will be in Homabay to the same drive before heading to Migori, Kisii, Nyamira and Kisumu and other counties.

The membership process is also set to be conducted online.

The party’s Communication Director Philip Etale disclosed Friday that the resolution for the Raila Odinga-led outfit to hold grassroots elections was made during a meeting of the National Executive Committee (NEC) held in September this year.

“The exercise to be held in Siaya town will be officiated by the Party Leader, H.E. Raila A. Odinga,” he said in a statement.

“This will be a build-up to the much-anticipated Party elections and is aimed at rejuvenating and reenergizing the party. After the launch, similar activities will be rolled out to other parts of the country,” noted Etale.

The party says the dates for the grassroots elections will be announced in the next meeting of the NEC which will be held before the end of the year.
