Raila through his ODM party says Malema is ignorant of the situation in Kenya after calling out the Azimio leader over demonstrations

Raila through his ODM party says Malema is ignorant of the situation in Kenya after calling out the Azimio leader over demonstrations.

The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party has reacted to comments made by South African opposition leader Julius Malema, about Raila Odinga and the current anti-government demonstrations in Kenya.

ODM secretary-general Edwin Sifuna in a statement described Malema as uninformed about Kenya’s political landscape and a target of propaganda from the Kwanza administration.

“It is clear that Comrade Malema, watching Kenya from a distance, is not familiar with the delicate socio-political fault lines in our nation, and makes the faulty assumption that his approach in fighting injustices in South Africa can be replicated here,” said Sifuna.

“If he was seized of the facts, he would know that Kenya is largely a dictatorship falsely basking in the sun of democracy, in which nearly all elections since 2007 have been fraudulent, and where the wrong president has been sworn in each time.”

Sifuna pointed out that Kenya has faced issues of electoral fraud and government oppression, making it different from the post-apartheid South Africa Malema is familiar with.

He highlighted the similarities between EFF and ODM in fighting against government oppression but clarified that the recent protests in Kenya were against high taxes, the rising cost of living, and the government’s refusal to listen to the people.

The ODM secretary general invited Malema to visit Kenya for a first-hand experience of the challenges faced by Kenyans.

“I have no doubt that if Malema was Kenyan, his red army would have joined us in their numbers on the streets, similar to what they recently did in South Africa,” Sifuna added.

Response by the Raila-led party comes after Malema called upon the opposition leader to pave the way for the government to finish its term and fulfill its promises to Kenyans.

“Do not disrupt Kenya, we need peace in Kenya. President William Ruto was democratically elected in Kenya. I will not allow you to use the people of Kenya to destabilize the peace of Kenya,” he stated.
