Raila urges supporters to turn up for day two protests as a contingent of police arrests former Mungiki leader Maina Njenga.
Azimio leader Raila Odinga has sent a message to Kenyans ahead of the second day of the opposition’s planned three-day protests.
In a statement, Raila insisted that the voice of Kenyans must be heard.
The Azimio leader also affirmed that the planned protests for Thursday are on.
“The voice of the People must be heard. Our peaceful protest continues,” Raila said.
The former prime minister declared that the day had been successful following the demonstrations on Wednesday, which included ongoing clashes between the police and his supporters.
He denounced the use of excessive force against demonstrators who are merely defending their constitutional rights.
Raila also denounced the deployment of live ammunition during the anti-government protests on Wednesday.
Raila claimed it was uncalled for in a statement that was provided with a video of a small boy who was supposedly shot in the leg.
“This illegitimate regime is targeting innocent children; using live bullets. Totally unwarranted, unjustifiable, and uncalled for. This happened in Mashimoni-Kibra today,” he said.
Meanwhile, Former Mungiki leader Maina Njenga was on Wednesday night, July 19, reportedly arrested by 50 police at his Kiserian home, his lawyer claimed.

Njenga’s lawyer Ndegwa Njiru in a statement stated that the ex-leader of the outlawed group was taken by police without disclosing the reasons or the charges he was facing.
According to the lawyer, his brother Njoroge Njenga and personal assistant Ole Lekishe have also whisked away in the night raid in a move that seemed aimed at crushing the anti-government protests mobilization.
Njiru said the three were driven away to an undisclosed location.
The arrests come hours after Azimio La Umoja leader Raila Odinga’s close aides and political allies were rounded up in a day that was supposed to mark the first of the three-day anti-Ruto protests.
Other leaders who have been since arrested following the protests include Embakasi MP Babu Owino, Raila’s bodyguard Maurice Ogeta, his spokesman Dennis Onyango, Makadara MP George Aladwa, Kilifi MP Ken Chonga, and a number of MCAs.
