Raila took Luhyas’ support for granted; Musalia Mudavadi

Mudavadi alleges that Raila took Luhyas’ support for granted claiming that the ODM leader no longer enjoys Western support.
Raila Odinga no longer has the backing and support he once had in Western Kenya, according to Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi.
Odinga has lost the support he had in the Western region for the previous four presidential elections, according to Mudavadi, who accused him of duping the Mulembe people.
Mudavadi said it is evident that residents in the vote-rich region have moved on and are taking a different political direction.
“We must wake up to the reality that Kenyans are dynamic. They are changing and want to see things done differently,” the Prime Cabinet
Speaking during an interview with TV47 on Friday night, Mudavadi reiterated that the ground in Western Kenya has already shifted.
His comments follow a heated discussion on whether the Prime Cabinet Secretary should now be regarded as the Luhya kingpin.
Mudavadi is now the third most powerful individual in the Kenya Kwanza government thanks to his position as Prime Cabinet Secretary.
According to the number of votes it receives from the region during elections, western Kenya has long been seen as a bastion of Raila.
In the general elections of 2007, 2013, and 2017, Odinga won the majority of the votes cast in the region for his presidential campaigns while also garnering the most MPs.

Mudavadi stated in the interview that elected officials need to learn to appreciate the voters.
“If we have been voting for you, it is because we were convinced at that time to give you that support. Do not take that support for granted,” he explained.
He added that politicians should also not assume that the support is static and that it will always be there at their call.
“We must wake up to realities. Demographics change and economic interests have taken a very different direction in all parts of the country,” he stated.
“If you think that you go into politics in a traditional way of the same simple narrative, then you’re in trouble.”
In his boldest move to date, Mudavadi has already met with Members of Parliament from Western Kenya from opposing political perspectives.
In the run-up to the elections, regional MPs who had abandoned the prime cabinet secretary in favor of Raila had grown fond of Kenya Kwanza.
Additionally, Mudavadi has been holding talks with all the governors from Western Kenya.
