Raila's Bodyguard Maurice Ogeta released and left in the middle of the road in Ruai at night

Raila’s Bodyguard Maurice Ogeta released and left in the middle of the road in Ruai at night.

The bodyguard of Azimio leader Raila Odinga, Maurice Ogeta, has been freed, according to ODM communications director Philip Etale.

Etale in a tweet on Saturday said Ogeta was released “a few minutes to 1 am and driven while blindfolded and left in the middle of the road in Ruai towards Kangundo” in a tweet on Saturday.

He claimed that although Ogeta is still in shock and anguish over what happened to his car, he is grateful to be alive.

“Maurice Ogeta, the bodyguard of Raila Odinga was released from police custody a few minutes to 1:00 am and driven while blindfolded and left in the middle of the road in Ruai towards Kangundo.

“His car is vandalized. However, he is happy to be alive but still distraught & in shock,” said Etale.

This comes after the High Court ordered the National Police Service (NPS) to produce Ogeta before any court in Nairobi or within the country.

“That, pending the hearing and determination of this application inter-parties, a writ of habeus corpus is hereby issued directing the 2nd Respondent to produce Maurice Ogeta before a court of competent jurisdiction in Nairobi or any other Court within the Republic of Kenya for an inquiry into the issue of his detention,” Justice Lawrence Mugambi directed.

Ogeta was reportedly accosted by unknown assailants suspected to be police officers on his way to work from home on Wednesday morning; he was allegedly flagged down, and then bundled in his car’s boot.

His family members had demanded for his release.

Ogeta is among individuals and leaders allied to Raila Odinga who were this week nabbed in connection with the three-day anti-government protests which ended on Friday.
