Raila’s long-serving aide, Silas Jakakimba parts ways with him and quits ODM after an altercation with Winnie Odinga.

Azimio leader Raila Odinga’s long-serving aide Silas Jakakimba has parted ways with him.

This comes days after Jakakimba claimed Raila’s daughter Winnie Odinga had insulted him over his social media profile picture of President William Ruto.

In a letter addressed to the Registrar of Political Parties, the lawyer simultaneously announced his resignation as a life member of Raila’s ODM party.

“This is to inform your office that I have resigned, effective immediately, as a life member of the ODM party of Kenya,” Jakakimba wrote.

He urged the office to strike his name out of the ODM party’s official membership register.

Jakakimba did not give any explanations for his decision to resign as Raila’s advisor at the Raila Odinga secretariat in a statement on Friday.

Jakakimba thanked Raila for what he termed as the hands-on grounding he had acquired in the provinces of democracy, international relations, conflict resolution, peace, good governance, and leadership.

“Even so, it remains clearly in my mind that I could possibly hold the candle to a natural ally, son, and mentee, I take this opportunity to inform you that I have taken the liberty to take time off the advisory role at the Raila Odinga secretariat effective immediately,” said Jakakimba in the statement.

“With so gratitude and honour, Jakom, receive the assurances of my highest respect and consideration and, prayers for your continued good health and a long happy life.”

Jakakimba said he knows no other human being on the African continent that comes close to Raila as the first among equals on the quest for a freer and prosperous continent outside of Nelson Mandela.

Jakakimba expressed his gratitude to Raila for the privilege of serving him and stated that he considered himself to have been a trustworthy, loyal, and resolute assistant during the ODM leader’s “monumental and historical journey for a better Kenya”.

“And I am privileged to share in the rare pride that I have been there with you as you waved several challenges to see to an end overhaul of our then governance architecture into a new constitutional dispensation that modified devolution at the centre of our governance,” Jakakimba said.

He noted that it was the new constitution and the birth of devolution that forms part of Raila’s lasting legacy through to younger generations.

In a letter dated March 17, Jakakimba also quit ODM.

Jakakimba and Raila first became involved in politics in 2004, when he was a member of the thriving Liberal Democratic Party Youth League.

Later, in the run-up to the 2007 elections, Raila appointed him as his parliamentary personal assistant.

Jakakimba also served as Raila’s personal assistant when he served as Prime Minister between 2007-2012.

Since 2015, Jakakimba has been Raila’s advisor based at the Raila Odinga Foundation.
