Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has cut short his tour in the United States (US) and is set to return to the country.
In a statement on Thursday, August 14, Gachagua said he will join the Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) in preparing for the upcoming by-elections.
“I regret being unable to visit the scheduled remaining States since I need to get back home to join our party, DCP, in preparation for the upcoming By-Elections in various parts of our country,” said Gachagua.
The DCP party leader apologized to the organizers of his US tour and to Kenyans in the diaspora he had yet to meet, saying the remaining part of the tour has been rescheduled to 2026.
“I am sorry to cut my trip short; my profound apologies to the organizers and Kenyans whom I were to meet; the same has been rescheduled to early next year,” he stated.
Gachagua further stated that he will take a few days off to rest before returning to Kenya, adding that his itinerary will be made public.
“I thank the Kenyans in the States for the love, warmth, and hospitality they accorded to us. I salute the organizers and officials of the DCP chapters for superb planning, organization, and meticulous coordination,” he added.
The former Deputy President jetted out of the country on Wednesday, July 9, 2025, in the company of his wife, Pastor Dorcas Rigathi.
He arrived in Seattle-Tacoma International Airport in Washington, D.C, on Friday, July 11, and was received warmly by Kenyans living in diaspora.

During his tour in the US, Gachagua visited several states and cities, including Los Angeles, Southern California, and Kansas City.
The former DP also visited Boston, Seattle, Washington, Texas, and Baltimore, Maryland.
Gachagua used the tour to criticize President William Ruto’s administration, accusing it of violating human rights.
On Wednesday, August 6, Gachagua asked the US government to impose travel sanctions against President Ruto after reviewing Kenya’s designation as a non-NATO ally.
“I think if the US Government can impose sanctions against him, barring him from entering America or any other country allied with America, our problems will be sorted instead of punishing the country,” he stated.
Gachagua’s return to Kenya comes days after the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) announced that by-elections will be held on November 27, 2025.
“All By-Elections will be held on 27th November 2025. The gazettement of the By-Elections has been scheduled in two batches,” IEBC said
The first batch of the by-elections will cover Members of County Assemblies for a total of 16 wards.
The second batch includes the Member of Senate seat for Baringo County, six National Assembly seats for Banissa, Kasipul, Magarini, Malava, Mbeere North, and Ugunja constituencies, and one County Assembly seat for Kabuchai/Chwele Ward in Bungoma County.
