Former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i has had a meeting with former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua in the US.
The two leaders met in Baltimore, Maryland, in the United States.
Gachagua has been in the US for weeks advancing his agenda against President William Ruto’s administration to the diasporians.
Gachagua revealed that their meeting centred on the wellness of Kenyans.
“We discussed several issues affecting our country, Kenya, and our liberation cause. Our focus remains strong, and our commitment to the people of Kenya is unwavered,” Gachagua said.
They later proceeded to engage Kenyans working in the US.
They held discussions with teachers, healthcare practitioners, and community workers.
At the centre of their engagements was the government’s move to cut budgetary allocation for free secondary education and the model of funding adopted for higher education.

Gachagua and Matiang’i observed that the government was formulating policies that are detrimental to the public.
“We are against the draconian decisions being made towards defunding Kenya’s education sector as well as the motionless university funding model by the current regime,” Gachagua noted.
The two leaders have come together under the opposition to strategize against Ruto as the 2022 vote draws closer.
They have both declared their presidential bids.
Whilst Matiang’i has been endorsed by the Uhuru Kenyatta-led Jubilee Party, Gachagua seeks to run on his DCP party ticket.
Gachagua is on record insisting that he is the viable candidate to challenge Ruto, but he said he would be open to supporting whichever candidate the opposition faction settles on.
Others in their coalition who have declared their bids are PLP party leader Martha Karua, Wiper party’s Kalonzo Musyoka, and Eugene Wamalwa of DAP Kenya.
