In images shared after the event, Gachagua marvelled at the beauty of the festival, which brings together the Gikuyu to celebrate their culture.

He further shared images at the event, dancing with his wife, Pastor Dorcas Rigathi. Also present was the People’s Liberation Party (PLP) leader, Martha Karua.

“Music is a powerful messaging medium that, over the years, has been effective and efficient. What a memorable evening at the 1st Edition of Ngemi Cia Ruraya held at Saghalie Park, Seattle, Washington,” Gachagua said.

“Accompanied by Pastor Dorcas Rigathi, my sister Martha Karua and surrounded by vibrant music and rich cultural heritage, we danced the night away, celebrating our roots and unity.”

The event drew hundreds from across the US to share cultural experiences through music, bringing together both politicians, local musicians and diaspora alike.

Among the entertainers who graced the event were the Kameme FM presenter Muthoni Wa Kirumba and popular Mugithi musician Samidoh.

The event was the first edition of the festival to be held abroad, as a series of others have been in the country over the past few years.

Gachagua arrived in the United States on Wednesday, July 9, night, marking his first international trip since his removal from office in October 2024.

Before he left, he held a press briefing, claiming that some of his close associates had received threats that alluded to him being blocked from travelling to the United States for diaspora engagements.

“I have been threatened by people close to William Ruto who called some of my people today and said that they will want to stop me from leaving the country,” Gachagua claimed.

“I have no problem. If you want to come and arrest me at the airport, as you were threatening us, you can go ahead. You cannot sell fear to us, and even if you sold it to us, we cannot buy it.”

He will be holding engagements in the states of Texas, California, Washington, Massachusetts, and Maryland.
