Ruto allied leaders in Ukambani, led by Kivutha Kibwana want UDA chairman Johnston Muthama to replace Kalonzo Musyoka.

A section of Ukambani politicians allied to President William Ruto have endorsed United Democratic Alliance (UDA) chairman Johnson Muthama to take over leadership of the Kamba community from Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka.

They cited his “political wisdom” that has landed the community into Government after nearly two decades of political cold.

Led by former Makueni Governor Kivutha Kibwana, the leaders who included former Kitui Senator David Musila, former Makueni Deputy Governor Adelina Mwau, former MPs Joe Mutambu (Mwingi Central), Michael Kisoi (Mbooni), Peter Kaindi (Kathiani), Gideon Ndambuki (Kaiti), Richard Katemi (Kaiti) and politicians James Mbaluka, said time was ripe for Muthama to take the community’s leadership mantle.

“It is time to change the community’s leadership because, if you happen to be a leader and you don’t succeed in delivering to your people, you definitely have to give way to another person,” he said.

Musila, who unsuccessfully vied for Kitui governorship for the second time, described Muthama as a patriotic son of the soil with an unmatched love for the community.

“If there is anyone who loves the Kamba community, it is Muthama,” said Musila.

Musila urged the politicians to come out strongly and sell Muthama across the villages of Ukambani. “We need fearless soldiers to market UDA, Muthama, and President Ruto without fear of what our opponents say,” he said.

And former Makueni Deputy Governor Adelina Mwau said: “Our political kingpin as Kamba community is now Muthama … And this has been accepted by all people”.

The leaders said it would be catastrophic for the Kamba community to remain in opposition at a time when it needs Government supports the most. “We have suffered for so long. That is the reason we need to change the leadership to another progressive leader,” said Musila.

“If Ruto won against the Deep State while alone, I don’t think there is anything apart from death that can deter him from securing a second term in 2027,” said Kibwana.

The leaders spoke on Sunday during a Kamba community political leadership meeting hosted by Muthama at his Mua home in Machakos town constituency.
