Ruto ally reveals many failed attempts to save impeached DP Gachagua
MP Geoffrey Ruku reveals there were many failed attempts to save impeached DP Rigathi Gachagua.
Mbeere North Member of Parliament Geoffrey Ruku on Thursday revealed that there were attempts at saving impeached Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, but the latter did not heed.
Speaking during a morning talk show on Citizen TV, the legislator revealed that he and other senior government and United Democratic Alliance (UDA) officials had tried talking to Gachagua in an attempt to prevail upon the ousted DP to always carry himself like a national leader and desist from making divisive comments like the infamous “shareholders” remarks.
Ruku stated Gachagua did not take the advice and proceeded to champion regional politics which led to his eventual impeachment.
According to Ruku, the attempts to censor Gachagua within the corridors of the inner political confines involved close allies of President William Ruto and religious leaders. Last week, Kapseret MP Oscar Sudi had echoed similar sentiments claiming that Gachagua had blatantly ignored advice.
”There were so many meetings where leaders sat down with the impeached Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua to tell him that this direction he was taking was wrong,’’ Ruku revealed.
”Many people, many politicians have sat down with him discussing issues, myself I have sat down with him telling him a national leader like you who is the principal assistant to the president should not conduct themselves like this,’’ he added.
The lawmaker further revealed that he even reminded Gachagua of what the laws of Kenya demanded of him, but all these attempts failed.
”You are not supposed to make these kind of utterances, the Constitution of the Republic of Kenya and the laws, the National Cohesion Act does not allow you to go round the country uttering this specific things,’’
However, when he was asked what Gachagua’s response was, the lawmaker declined to issue one. The lawmaker further claimed that Gachagua did not have friends regarded to be very close to him who would hammer sense into him.

‘’Let’s not go in that direction. The impeached Deputy President does not have friends including Nyutu (Murang’a Senator Joe Nyutu) who is seated here,’’ Ruku maintained in an attempt to drive the point home that Gachagua is a lone ranger and most of his political allies are just that.
According to Ruku, legislators from Mt Kenya who appeared to be close to Gachagua already knew that his goose was cooked and were only lying to him, pretending to be with him politically yet they knew that he deserved to be ousted.
He added that Gachagua’s allies only behaved in a way to please the ousted DP and garner sympathy from the public.
”The number of people who were walking with the impeached Deputy President who are not his friends are the majority. Those who wished him to be impeached as quickly as possible, but because of playing to the public gallery, they have to behave in a certain manner,’’ Ruku added.
Gachagua’s fate as the Deputy President now lies with the courts which he hopes will help him retain his seat and stop nominated Deputy President Kithure Kindiki from taking over.
