Ruto appoints a tribunal to investigate the conduct of the four IEBC Commissioners, Cherera and the Co.
A tribunal has been established by president William Ruto to look into the conduct of the IEBC vice chairperson Juliana Cherera and three other commissioners during the election on August 9.
Justice Aggrey Muchelule will preside over the tribunal that was established on Friday, December 2.
Additionally chosen to investigate the commissioners were Carolyne Kamende Daudi, Linda Gakii Kiome, Mathew Njaramba Nyabena, and retired Colonel Saeed Khamis Saced.
The panel will also include Kibet Kirui Emmanuel, Irene Tuntu Neboe, Peter Munge Murage, and Zamzam Abdi Abib.
Vice chairperson Juliana Cherera will be investigated alongside Justus Nyangaya, Francis Wanderi, and Irene Masit.
“The mandate of the Tribunal shall be to consider the petition for the removal of Juliana Cherera, Francis Mathenge Wanderi, Irene Cherop Masit and Justus Abonyo Nyang’aya from office as members of IEBC and to inquire into the allegations therein,” read the special gazette notice in part.
Further, the President directed the four commissioners to be suspended until the matter is concluded.
“Having received and considered the petition of the NA and in the exercise of the prerogative vested in the Head of State and Government by Article 251 of the Constitution, I William Samoei Ruto, President and Commander-in-Chief of the Kenya Defence Forces, do hereby direct that;
“The four are hereby suspended from office with immediate effect, and a tribunal to inquire into the matter be and is hereby appointed,” read the notice in part.
Before deciding on the four commissioners, Ruto stated that the tribunal would deliver a report to him after the investigation was finished.
Ruto had already approved a report recommending that the four commissioners be suspended and subject to an investigation for opposing presidential election results on August 9.
However, Raila Odinga, disagreed with the order, claiming that Ruto was exploiting his position of authority to settle personal differences.
In support of the four commissioners, Raila swore to fight. To put pressure on the head of state, he had previously planned to organize statewide rallies.
