Ruto warns those who stole millions meant for the Finland and Canada education scholarships to return the money with Mandago being arrested.

President William Ruto has warned those who allegedly stole millions from parents in the Finland and Canada education scholarship to return the money.

Speaking at a rally on Wednesday, August 16 in Eldoret town, Ruto assured the residents, and parents in particular, that the monies that they gave to the county will be recovered by anti-corruption agencies.

Ruto noted that the action by county officials was embarrassing and would not want such to happen again.

“It’s embarrassing for anyone to steal money meant for the education of young people in Uasin Gishu,” Ruto stated, adding that, “those involved should carry their own cross.”

“If there is anyone who misused the money collected from parents let him organize to pay back,” Ruto said

He said some parents sold their assets including land and must be refunded.

“Those are our children and they are innocent and therefore we have to help them pursue their education,” Ruto said.

Meanwhile, the main suspect Uasin Gishu Senator and former Governor Jackson Mandago has been arrested over links to the mismanagement of the Ksh1 billion Finland and Canada scholarship scandal.

Mandago was picked from his Eldoret home following claims that he conspired to defraud parents in the programme.

According to reports, the Senator was quickly whisked to the Nakuru Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) office to record a statement.

His arrest came after the National Police Service (NPS) noted that they are in the process of executing an arrested warrant on the UDA Senator.

NPS mentioned that Mandago’s whereabouts are unknown since Tuesday and appealed to Kenyans who are privy to his whereabouts to service them with the information.

“The National Police Service is in the process of executing a Warrant of Arrest against Uasin Gishu Senator Hon. Jackson Mandago, who has gone underground since yesterday (Tuesday) and calls upon the Senator to present himself at the nearest police station.

“NPS further appeals to any member of the public with information about Senator Mandago’s whereabouts to report to the nearest police station or report via our toll-free numbers 999, 112, 911, and the fichua Kwa DC,” NPS

 stated.
