President William Ruto is among a group of African leaders who have arrived in the Kingdom for the Saudi-Africa summit set to start on Friday.

Ruto left for Saudi after the State of the Nation Address and upon arrival was received by His Royal Highness Prince Mohammed bin Abdul Rahman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud – Deputy Governor of Riyadh.

The inaugural Saudi-African Summit will be held at the King Abdulaziz International Conference Centre, Saudi Arabia.

Organizers say leaders from 50 nations throughout the Middle East and Africa will gather for the Summit.

Ruto joined other heads of state including Nigerian President Bola Tinubu, Eritrean President Isaias Afwerki, Gabonese interim President Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema, Mauritanian President Mohamed Ould Ghazouani, Mauritius President Prithvirajsing Roopun, Malawian President Lazarus Chakwera, Tanzanian President Samia Suluhu Hassan and Nigerien Prime Minister Ali Mahamane Lamine Zeine.

Discussions at the first Saudi-Africa Summit will revolve around supporting joint action, enhancing political coordination, addressing regional security threats, and facilitating economic transformation through research and the local development of new energy solutions, all while bolstering cross-sectoral investment cooperation.

Ruto’s trip to the Saudi-Africa Summit in Saudi comes amid backlash from Kenyans over his numerous foreign travels.

The president has made tens of trips abroad since assuming office in August 2022, something that has attracted criticism from the opposition and a section of Kenyans.

However, his team has supported the trips, saying they are for the benefit of the country.
