Ruto grants ACK church Galana-Kulalu land for agricultural purposes

Ruto allows the ACK church (The Anglican Church of Kenya) to use Galana-Kulalu irrigation Scheme for agricultural purposes

Ruto allows the ACK church (The Anglican Church of Kenya) to use Galana-Kulalu irrigation Scheme for agricultural purposes.

The church led by Archbishop Jackson Ole Sapit requested to take up the Galana-Kulalu land during a meeting with President William Ruto at State House, Nairobi.

According to a statement by Ruto on Thursday, March 16, the church leaders conceived the initiative as part of their plans to support pastoralists with animal feeds for their livestock.

Ruto stated that ACK has committed to enhancing animal nutrition and strengthening the sustainability of the pastoralist industry.

The President spoke during the meeting and praised the proposal, highlighting the need to improve the welfare of pastoral communities that had previously been devastated by drought and a shortage of grazing.

“This innovative idea will offer pastoralist communities feed security, improve animal nutrition and make the pastoralist sector more sustainable,” the President announced.

“We commend the Anglican Church for expressing interest in using the Galana Kulalu Irrigation Scheme Development Project to grow animal feeds,” he added.

The President also urged more clergy members to get involved in important national efforts like planting trees and protecting the environment.

He praised the Anglican Church, noting that it had planted more than 2.5 million trees across the country.

The President instructed the State Departments of Livestock and Irrigation to collaborate with the church and their partners in order to make their endeavor a success in response to the church’s desire to acquire property for the production of animal feed.

The statement came two months after Ruto rescinded the prior land allocation made available for settlement to the general public in a procedure conducted under the administration of former President Uhuru Kenyatta.

In his statement, Ruto reiterated the need to preserve the land for food production in the country as part of the campaign for food security.

“After an extensive tour of the Galana Kulalu national food security project, the planned subdivision into settlement parcels is revoked,” Ruto noted.
