Ruto is a dictator in Making – Martha Karua
Martha Karua, the former Azimio presidential running mate alleges that President William Ruto’s administration may turn dictatorial.
Karua made the remarks in reference to the recent surge in the withdrawal of high-profile cases adding that it signified that President William Ruto’s administration may turn dictatorial.
Speaking on November 17 at a human rights meeting organized by Uganda’s opposition leaders in Nairobi, Karua criticized the current administration, claiming that the dismissal of high-profile cases would have long-term effects on the nation’s democracy.
Justifying her sentiments, Karua indicated the acquittals did not target ordinary Kenyans.
“We have seen in recent months’ cases being withdrawn, of fraud and others where the suspects are the people in power.
We have seen land-grabbing cases and affidavits being sworn saying there was no land-grabbing. How comes all these cases are the people in power, not the ordinary people? she posed.
“Something is cooking in Kenya, and this is the making of a dictatorship,” she warned.
Karua alleged that the withdrawal of the cases may also be a sign that the independence of key institutions in the country had been compromised.
“It is your silence that is helping dictatorship to thrive in East Africa and in our country, and if continue this way, we are going to be submerged by violation of human rights,” she added.
Karua urged all East African nations, including Kenya, to band together and address the crimes committed against people by backward governments while making allusions to the circumstance in Uganda.
I’m here to say that we shouldn’t give anyone a chance or a place if they don’t respect human rights and democracy, Karua said.
Her words come a few days after Raila criticized President Ruto’s administration for applying the law only in certain circumstances. The former prime minister charged that the present administration had jailed followers of Azimio while releasing Ruto’s loyalists.
“How do you justify dropping criminal charges against Mithika Linturi (Agriculture CS), Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, and Aisha Jumwa (Public Service CS) while imprisoning Sirisia MP, John Waluke? Raila wondered.
