Ruto laments Uhuru’s account of success in a speech before International Community after Madaraka Day snub

Ruto laments Uhuru’s account of success in a speech before the International Community after the Madaraka Day snub.

Deputy President William Ruto has escalated his differences with President Kenyatta, which played out on Madaraka Day.

In a meeting with European Union Ambassador to Kenya, Henriette Geiger, and other diplomats at his Karen office on Thursday, June 2, Ruto argued the President was at pains to explain his government’s success.

During the Madaraka Day celebrations, President Kenyatta gave an account of what his government has been able to achieve; more on infrastructural development.

For instance, the president said his administration has built about 18,000 km of tarmac road since he took over in 2013.

‘During the first term, we built slightly over 3,000 Kms of tarmac roads. But in the second term, we have completed close to 8,000 Kms and over 6,600 Kms of tarmac roads are currently ongoing.”

Ruto laments Uhuru’s account of success

In his address before the European Union diplomats, Ruto alleged that the president was at pains to explain the progress of some projects done by his administration.

Ruto’s statement comes just one day after Uhuru ignored him on Madaraka Day, refusing to acknowledge him and to an extent accusing Ruto of corruption and land grabbing.

“Land matters were handled using a manual registry, the Ministry of Lands thus became a den of corruption. Part of the Wilson Airport here had a title deed registered in the name of a private individual,” Uhuru said in reference to Weston hotel owned by the DP.

Ruto stated that Uhuru deviated from addressing the Big 4 Agenda to a handshake between him and Raila Odinga.

“There are nearly five issues we have to sort out as the Kenya Kwanza alliance and I am happy the President indicated some areas of progress, projects we started together in 2013.

“But what did not come out clearly was the Big Four Agenda because the handshake completely annihilated it. That is why he (Uhuru) did not mention the Big Four Agenda yesterday,” Ruto stated.

The deputy president also addressed the fight against corruption in Kenya claiming war had been personalized.

“We must win the fight against corruption and it’s the only way to the future. I agree with president Uhuru Kenyatta yesterday that corruption can be a big impediment to development,” he said.

“We believe that the fight against corruption must be institutionalized and not personalized. It must be a fight against criminals from all shades, it must not be weaponized against your political opponent and the people you don’t like while protecting the corrupt who are our allies or friends or members of your family.”

“Covid billionaires escaped because they were friends with those saying they want to fight corruption,” Ruto stated.
