Ruto makes new nominations to the National Police Commission

President William Ruto has nominated Dr. Amani Yuda Komora and Ms. Angeline Yuantion Siparo to serve as Chairperson and Member, respectively, of the National Police Service Commission (NPSC).

According to a statement from the Executive Office of the President shared on Monday, August 4, the nominees are tasked with overseeing the recruitment, appointment, promotion, and discipline of officers within the National Police Service.

“It is notified for general information of the public that His Excellency the President, in conformity with Article 250(2)(a) of the Constitution and in accordance with the procedure established under Article 166(1) of the National Police Service Commission Act (Chapter 84, Laws of Kenya), has nominated the Chairperson and one member of the National Police Service Commission,” the statement reads in part.

Dr. Komora, the nominee for Chairperson, is the immediate former Vice-Chairperson of the Salaries and Remuneration Commission, where he has served since 2019.

“He had served as the General Manager, Human Resource and Administration at the Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) between 2009 and 2013. He was also a Director at the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) and a Member of several General Wages Councils,” the notice informed.

Ms. Siparo, nominated as a member of the Commission, has most recently coordinated the Young African Leaders Initiative (YALI) Legacy Localization Project across 49 countries.

Between 2019 and 2022, she served as Chairperson of the National AIDS Control Council. Her career spanned work in the Ministry of Health, UNAIDS, and various health-focused international organizations.

The appointments follow recommendations by a selection panel formed to recruit nominees to the Commission, as outlined in a Kenya Gazette notice dated February 28, 2025.

Upon parliamentary approval, the newly reconstituted NPSC will comprise Dr. Komora as Chairperson, alongside Ms. Siparo and other members: Ms. Doris Ruthoni Kimani, Mr. Edwin Chelugei, Mr. Benjamin Juma Jinal, and Prof. Colleta A. Suda.
