Ruto plans to postpone 2027 elections; Gachagua claims

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has alleged that President William Ruto plans to postpone the next general elections to extend his stay in office beyond the constitutional timelines.

Speaking in Mwiki PCEA church in Kasarani, the former DP alleged that there were plans to postpone the elections following the recent spate of attacks targetted at him.

Responding to an earlier incident where goons stormed the church event, momentarily disrupting the service.

According to Gachagua, it was from the recent spate of attacks that the government was intending to incite his supporters into turmoil to have an opportunity to push the country into chaos.

”Stay calm, do not be provoked, and I know that they are trying to provoke me into conflict. I want our people to stay peaceful so that we do not ban our country,” Gachagua maintained.

”I will not agree to be drawn into responding to disorder because I can see that is what they are trying to do. They are trying to push me to react so that we can burn the country for them to have an opportunity to postpone the elections.”

Gachagua’s comments came moments after gunshots and chaos filled the air in Nairobi’s Kasarani estate after security officers associated with him fired into the air to disperse hundreds of youths who had stormed the PCEA Kasarani East church.

According to reports, the security officers linked to the former DP acted after the youth stormed the church, allegedly demanding cash payments.

The youth gained entry into the church and broke chairs used by the congregants during the service, leaving several people with injuries.

The goons were mainly dressed in military fatigues and combat gear, raising fears about their intention.

In a scathing attack directed at his former boss, Gachagua blamed the chaos witnessed at Mwiki PCEA Church on President Ruto and Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja.

While describing the attack as ‘insensitive and unkind,’ Gachagua slammed the president for allegedly sponsoring goons to infiltrate a church, saying the attacks on him had reached a different level.

“My President. What happened to you? In a church? You have reached a different level. You sent me goons in Limuru last week, you sent goons to Nyeri, and now you’ve sent them to church. You have become bold,” the former DP lamented.
