Ruto promise to rebuild church damaged during 2007 post election violence

Ruto promise to rebuild church
President William Ruto has offered help to rebuild the African Inland Church (AIC) in Kibera, Nairobi County.
The president was among the congregants at the church on Sunday, May 25.
He was informed that the church had a dilapidated structure with a leaking roof.
Ruto acknowledged that the church had never had a makeover after being damaged during the chaos in 2007.
He promised to take over the reconstruction of the church; he, however, did not disclose the amount he would give for the cause.
“I have been told that this church got destroyed during the post-election violence in 2007, and it has since then never had proper repairs. But because I am a faithful of the AIC church, I am here today; this church will be facelifted. I will cooperate with clergy and see what needs to be done here. I won’t mention what will happen, but I want to assure you that the work will happen,” Ruto said.
The president vowed to continue with his charitable causes in churches, saying construction of places of worship is among his personal agenda.
He has been under sharp criticism for focusing resources on churches at the expense of critical areas.
In March this year, the president sparked an online pandemonium when he promised to help a Nairobi church raise money to put up a futuristic worship centre, which was expected to cost over Ksh1.2 billion.

Jesus Winner Ministry, situated in Roysambu, Nairobi county, planned to build a church that would feature amenities such as parking and a helipad.
Speaking to the faithful on Sunday, March 2, Pastor Edward Mwai revealed that the church would be sitting on a 2-acre piece of land.
Displaying the artistic impression of the church on the screen before the congregants and the president, the presiding cleric further revealed that the church would also feature a basement parking to complement the one in the exterior.
While addressing the church, Ruto acceded to Pastor Mwai’s request.
He explained that the government had cleared the land on which the church would be built and issued the title deed and also promised to alienate a piece of land to build a tarmac road leading to the church.
The president, in his personal capacity, pledged Ksh 20 million toward the church’s construction.
The donation sparked rage among a section of Kenyans, who vowed to raid the church and demand the money.
They argued that the donation might have been obtained from the public coffers.
