President William Ruto has pledged substantial rewards to Harambee Stars players following their historic qualification for the knockout stages of the African Nations Championship (CHAN).
According to a statement released on Monday, August 11, the President met with the team to congratulate them and outline the rewards ahead.
Should Kenya defeat Zambia in their upcoming quarter-final clash on Sunday, each player will receive KSh2.5 million.
Furthermore, if they advance past the quarter-finals, each player will also be awarded KSh1 million and a two-bedroom affordable housing unit in a location of their choice.
“Met the team to congratulate them on their victory over Morocco and their historic qualification for the CHAN knockout stages,” the statement read. “We’ve also agreed on rewards: A win against Zambia next Sunday will earn each player KSh2.5 million. If they triumph in the quarter-finals, each will be gifted KSh1 million and a two-bedroom affordable housing unit in a location of their choice.”

Ruto lauded the national football team for uniting the country through their spirited performances, notably their 1-0 win over Morocco on Sunday, August 10.
Ryan Ogam scored the decisive goal in the match at Kasarani Stadium, securing Kenya’s spot in the CHAN quarter-finals.
“The Harambee Stars are proof of what unity can achieve,” Ruto said.
“They have brought the country together, and we are all witnessing the success it brings to the nation. We stand behind you, praying that this time we win CHAN because it’s within close reach.”
The latest pledge builds on an earlier commitment by the President, in which he promised each player KSh1 million for every CHAN match win and KSh500,000 for every draw.
