Ruto, Raila engages in yet another online war of words over the suspension of the IEBC commissioners.

President William Ruto and Azimio leader Raila Odinga got into another online Twitter war on the dismissal of the Cherera 4 Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) commissioners.

On December 3, Ruto reprimanded Raila for the defense of his decision to hold protests in response to the IEBC commissioners making comparisons to the dictatorship of the late President Daniel Moi.

He referred to the justification as illogical and accused the former prime minister of acting as if he were god while attempting to frustrate the will of the people.

“Stop deluding yourself and lying. The coup to overturn the people’s will using rogue commissioners failed and now, you are now threatening us with demonstrations.

“The tribunal will determine their guilt, or innocence in accordance with the rule of law,” Ruto claimed.

Raila Odinga released a video of Ruto in 2007 complaining to the Electoral Commission of Kenya (ECK) about irregularities in the contentious presidential election results in order to refute the president.

The former ODM pentagon member questioned the commission, which was then presided over by the late Samuel Kivuitu, in the video, demanding an explanation for the differences between the presidential vote and other votes—the same concerns stated by Raila in his appeal for the 2022 election.

“Do not act like you have forgotten what happened (Usijifanye leo hii kwamba umesahau) when the shoe was firmly on the other foot. Let me just leave this here,” he wrote.

On December 2, the opposition leader accused Ruto of turning Kenya into a dictatorship, sparking the most recent online verbal brawl.

He specifically criticized the president and other officials of his administration for having a shepherd-like demeanor.

“I’ve witnessed self-proclaimed god-fearing leaders preside over the persecution, false prosecution, and even murder of innocent Kenyans. I’ve witnessed an insecure regime run our economy to the ground,” he explained.

Odinga had organized nationwide demonstrations set to start on November 30 but pushed them to December 7 to allow candidates to sit their national exams.
