Nandi Senator Samson Cherargei has interpreted former President Uhuru Kenyatta’s Friday’s appearance at State House as a major political statement, claiming it confirms President Ruto’s re-election in 2027 is “crystal clear.”

Uhuru, who has had strained ties with Ruto since the 2022 transition, made a rare appearance at State House during a joint EAC–SADC meeting on the peace process in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

In a post on X, Cherargei said Uhuru’s presence at the seat of power had angered “tribalists and bigots” opposed to national unity as it signalled a new chapter in political alignment, suggesting it cleared the path for President Ruto’s second term bid.

“The presence of H.E Uhuru at State House yesterday with President Ruto has made most tribalists and bigots mad because they don’t want an inclusive, united and cohesive Kenya,” Cherargei wrote.

“This also confirms that ‘tutam’ (re-election) is crystal clear now for President Ruto’s administration. The 2027 General Presidential Elections will be a coronation ceremony; the opponents can wait to run in 2032,” he added.

Uhuru attended the State House meeting in his capacity as AU-Kenya Peace Envoy and Facilitator of the EAC-led Nairobi Peace Process.

After the closed-door meeting, President Ruto personally gave Uhuru a tour of State House, including the site of a church under construction.

“I had the pleasure of conducting my old good friend, Retired President Uhuru Kenyatta, on a tour around State House,” Ruto posted on X.

“Pleased to show my good friend, Retired President Uhuru Kenyatta, around State House,” he added in a separate post.

In videos shared on the President’s X account, the two leaders were seen chatting animatedly as they walked together before Ruto saw Uhuru off with a warm hug.

Uhuru was also seen gesturing that he would stay in touch through phone calls.

Cherargei’s remarks drew mixed reactions online, with some critics accusing the senator of jumping the gun on the 2027 race.

“Let me ask you, Senator, how many votes does Uhuru Kenyatta have?” one user wrote.

“The same Uhuru who fronted Raila and got rejected? The fact that you people don’t understand Murima politics is laughable,” another added.

“You think Uhuru will change the mountain vote? Keep dreaming,” read another post.

Uhuru’s appearance at State House has since sparked speculation about the state of relations between the two former rivals and what it might mean for the country’s political trajectory heading into the next general election.

The two fell out during the 2022 succession race that saw Uhuru back opposition leader Raila Odinga.
