Ruto wooing Kalonzo to join his government as he sees him a main challenger in 2027
Ruto wooing Kalonzo Musyoka to join his government as he sees him a main challenger in 2027 general elections.
President William Ruto through his close allies has continued to woo Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka to abandon the opposition and join him in the government.
The latest is former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko who pleaded with Wiper party to join President William Ruto’s Kenya Kwanza.
On November 4, Friday, Sonko and Kalonzo attended the burial of Senator Daniel Maanzo’s mother, Mirriam Munini Maanzo, in Makueni County among other Ukambani officials.
While addressing the mourners, Sonko asked Kalonzo to quit the opposition and join Ruto in running the government.
Comparing Kalonzo to all other Ukambani leaders vying for the position, he continued, Kalonzo has the most potential to become the next president.
“Leave the dynasties. You have the potential to become the next President of Kenya. I am sure that all the Ukambani leaders will fully support your presidential bid.
Sonko argued that Kalonzo leaving the opposition would be extremely beneficial for the Ukambani region’s growth.
Supporting his sentiments, Sonko explained that Ruto was adamant about transforming the region despite few residents voting for him in the August 9 polls.
However, Kalonzo emphasized again that he will stand for Raila Odinga and the opposition.
“We do not have a problem with Ruto as he is my young brother. I also want to send our son Sonko to deliver a message.
“Tell Ruto to pave the way. We have decided to work as loyal opposition. When the situation gets tough, he should be ready to step out of the way,” Kalonzo challenged the President.
His sentiments came a few days after Ruto insisted that he was willing to work with Kalonzo Musyoka.
Ruto responded to Ukambani leaders, who had asked him to accommodate the opposition leader in government.
He further disclosed that Kalonzo turned down his job offer and was persistent on working with Raila instead.
Kalonzo is expected to run for the presidency in the 2027 general elections and poses great threat to William Ruto if he’ll have the full backing of Raila Odinga.
