Safaricom announces M-Pesa scheduled system maintenance
Safaricom PLC has announced a scheduled system upgrade that will temporarily interrupt M-Pesa services for three hours on Monday, September 22, 2025.
In a notice on Friday, September 19, Safaricom said the maintenance will take place between 12:30 AM and 3:30 AM.
“For 18 years, M-PESA has continued to transform lives across Kenya, connecting you, our customers, to opportunities every day.
“To support this and meet our promise to offer always-on, safe, secure, and worry-free financial products and services, we will be conducting a scheduled system upgrade on Monday, 22ⁿᵈ September 2025 from 0:30 AM to 3:30 AM,” Safaricom stated.
The teleco noted that during the upgrade, all M-Pesa services, including airtime purchase, will be unavailable.
“During the maintenance, all M-Pesa services, including airtime purchases, shall be temporarily unavailable,” Safaricom said.
The company explained that the maintenance exercise was scheduled past midnight to minimize inconvenience to M-Pesa customers.
“We apologize for any inconvenience that may be caused and thank you for your continued support,” Safaricom added.

Safaricom regularly conducts scheduled maintenance on its M-PESA services to enhance system efficiency and reliability.
This is the second time in 2025 that the company will be conducting maintenance on its M-Pesa system.
On March 24, Safaricom carried out a maintenance exercise from 1:00 AM to 1:30 AM, lasting approximately 30 minutes.
“To meet our promise to always offer a reliable, safe, secure, and superior customer experience, we will be conducting a scheduled system maintenance on the night of Monday, 24th March 2025, starting from 01:00 AM to 01:30 AM,” the company said.
The mobile service provider company explained that the maintenance is part of their ongoing efforts to enhance service delivery.
“We are continuously innovating and enhancing our services to connect our customers with endless possibilities,” the company added.
During the maintenance period, M-Pesa services were affected, with transactions experiencing intermittent interruptions.
