Safaricom maintains a dominant market share in mobile and fibre usage in the country as revealed in a report by the Communication Authority of Kenya (CA).
In its report covering the third quarter of the 2023/2024 financial year, the authority revealed that Safaricom had 44,666,368 subscriptions in comparison to 19,858,255 of Airtel.
Telkom Ltd subscriptions were noted to be 1,478,668 followed by Finserve (Equitel) at 1,497,283.
“The number of active mobile (SIM) subscriptions increased to 68.0 million by the end of March 2024 from 66.7 million subscriptions recorded by the end of December 2023, translating to a penetration rate of 132.1 per cent,” read the report in part.
“The growth is attributed to customer win-back campaigns run during the reference period.”
On the other hand, Safaricom was revealed to be the country’s leading internet provider.

Safaricom was reported to have 522,217 subscriptions which translates to a market share of 37.4 percent.
In second place was Jamii Telecommunications Ltd with 315,819 subscriptions. This was revealed to be a market share of 22.6 percent.
Wananchi Group (Kenya) Limited known for Zuku Internet had 262,753 subscriptions.
Other service providers were Poa Internet Kenya Ltd (182,376 subscriptions), Mawingu Networks Ltd (30,908 subscriptions) and Vilcom Network Limited (17,247 subscriptions).
“Fibre to the home and subscriptions to data speeds between 2Mbps and 10Mbps recorded the highest number of fixed broadband subscriptions,” read the report in part.
