One Al-Shabaab killed with several injured after Kenyan security forces raided their camp where they were planning an attack.

A multi-agency security team including Kenya Defense Forces (KDF) soldiers on Wednesday raided an Al Shabaab camp in Ijara, Garissa County, and thwarted an imminent terror attack.

The team killed one Al Shabaab militant while several other terrorists escaped with serious injuries during the raid.

In addition, the multi-agency team found three magazines for the AK-47, a number of rounds of ammunition, food, medicine, and personal belongings.

According to reports, the operation foiled a terror attack against civilians and security personnel planned by Al-Shabaab.

“The successful operation thwarted planned Al Shabaab attacks against both civilians and security personnel in Garissa County,” read part of the statement.

Following the incident, members of the public were urged to be vigilant and report suspicious activities to authorities for action to be taken.

The team has scaled up operations and pursued high-profile suspects particularly in North Eastern to stop planned attacks.

Al Shabaab has been on the radar of Kenyan authorities for staging attacks in various parts of Kenya. 

More recently, the group has been flagged for planning attacks in Northern Kenya and along the Coastal belt.

Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki has however vowed to crush Al Shabaab operations.

The CS went to the extent of releasing the names and photos of over 35 suspected terrorists believed to be responsible for various attacks across the country.
