EACC detectives arrest Nairobi County government official; the Assistant Director for Development Control and Urban Planning.

On Friday, May 4, detectives from the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) arrested a senior Nairobi county official on corruption allegations.

The arrest was made following the conclusion of investigations into the suspect, who works as an Assistant Director at Nairobi County Government.

According to EACC detectives, the suspect now in jail was in charge of Development Control, Built Environment, and Urban Planning.

“As part of ongoing corruption investigations in various Departments of Nairobi City County Government, EACC on Friday undertook a successful investigative operation on the suspect,” the EACC detectives noted.

The arrest came after an intelligence-led operation in Kisii, Nairobi, and Ngong, during which investigators tracked the suspect.

After several days of tracking down the suspect, detectives apprehended him and took him to the EACC Integrity Centre, where he recorded a statement.

According to authorities, the suspect was arrested on suspicion of using his office to commit corruption and economic crimes.

The accused is believed to have amassed multi-million dollar fortunes that the EACC officers claimed were not proportionate to his known lawful sources of income.

“Subject to the outcome of the investigation, the ensuing action may include criminal prosecution and/or proceedings for forfeiture of any assets found to have been corruptly acquired,” the EACC officers said.

The arrest comes just a week after anti-corruption officers detained Taita Taveta County Assembly Clerk for alleged involvement in a Ksh17 million graft scam.

His detention followed a High Court decision in Voi, in which a case he filed against the EACC and ODPP seeking to block his arrest and prosecution was rejected.
