Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) officers have arrested Principal Prosecution Counsel Japhet Ouko Mayore Isaboke while receiving a bribe

Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) officers have arrested Principal Prosecution Counsel Japhet Ouko Mayore Isaboke while receiving a bribe.

In a statement on Monday, February 17, EACC said the suspect who is in charge of the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) in Kilgoris, Narok County was nabbed on Sunday while receiving a bribe from a businessman to fast-track a court case.

According to EACC, Isaboke had demanded Ksh 50,000 from the businessman but the amount was negotiated down to Ksh 40,000.

“The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has arrested Japheth Ouko Mayore Isaboke, the Principal Prosecution Counsel in charge of ODPP Kilgoris, on allegations of soliciting a Kes50,000 bribe from a businessman in exchange for fast-tracking a court case. The amount was negotiated downwards to Kes40,000,” read part of the statement by EACC.

The businessman refused to pay the Ksh 40,000 bribe and reported the matter to EACC.

The Commission then conducted an operation that led to the arrest of the suspect on Sunday while receiving Kes20,000 as part of the bribe.

Isaboke was held at Kisii Police Station and later released on Kes30,000 cash bail pending the finalization of the investigation.

This comes weeks after EACC arrested a Kenya Power and Lighting Company (KPLC) employee who allegedly demanded a Ksh 300,000 bribe to restore electricity.

The complainant negotiated the amount down to Ksh 200,000 but refused to make the payment and instead reported the matter to the Commission.

EACC officers conducted a sting operation and apprehended the suspect while he was receiving the bribe.
