A senior journalist from the Standard Group, Rashid Mukoya Idi, has died after a short illness.

According to reports, the journalist collapsed in the media houses’ offices before being rushed to the hospital, where he passed away.

Mukoya’s family has since confirmed his death, saying he lost his life on Wednesday, December 25, while receiving treatment at a hospital in Nairobi.

It remains unclear what caused the journalist’s death, or whether a pre-existing medical condition may have contributed to his collapse.

Mukoya was a senior videographer at the Standard Group’s editorial department. He joined the media house in 2013.

According to the media house, in the past decade, Mokaya has been key in elevating visual storytelling across all the company’s platforms.

His notable achievements during his career included the 2016 CNN MultiChoice African Journalist of the Year Award, alongside journalist Asha Mwilu.

The announcement comes just two weeks after the Head of Radio Mayienga at the Kenya Broadcasting Corporation (KBC), Festus Amimo, died.
