Several people dead after road accident along Kericho-Nyamira Highway

Scores are feared dead after being involved in a tragic road accident near Ekerenyo in Nyamira County along the Kericho-Nyamira highway.

The grisly accident which occurred on the night of Saturday, December 13 involved a 14-seater Public Service Vehicle (PSV) shuttle belonging to Quarser Sacco and a trailer.

The trailer was travelling from Ekerenyo while the shuttle was coming from Ikonge when they collided head-on.

Reports indicate that at least six people perished and several others were injured in the night accident.

In a statement after the accident, Nyamira Governor Amos Nyaribo said the county deployed emergency teams to the scene to help the injured passengers.

Governor Nyaribo also extended his condolences to the families who lost their kin in the tragic accident.

“I have learnt with deep shock of the tragic road accident at Ri’Arani, Ekerenyo Ward- along Kisii Chemosit Road-, which has tonight claimed lives and left others with injuries.

“Our teams at the Nyamira County Referral Hospital are working around the clock to save those who were injured. My utmost condolences to the families, which have lost their loved ones,” said Governor Nyaribo.

The accident came hours after former Lugari Member of Parliament Cyrus Jirongo died after being involved in a road accident on the busy Nairobi-Nakuru Highway.
