County police commander Peter Mulinge said the infant who is a girl was found dumped and crying inside Yatoi forest, some four kilometers east of Kapcherop police station.

It was not clear when the infant was dumped in the area.

“It was reported that one unknown baby girl about one week old was found abandoned and crying within Yatoi forest, 4km East of Kapcherop police station,” Mulinge said.

He said police officers visited the area and processed the scene before taking the minor to Kapcherop hospital for immediate medical attention.

The infant was later taken to Iten County Referral hospital where she was handed to the nurse in charge.

Mulinge said they are using all means to trace whoever dumped the infant in the forest where she was fortunately not harmed by wild animals.

“We are looking for a woman who was pregnant possibly within the location and could have dumped the infant after giving birth,” Mulinge said.

He said with the assistance of village elders the suspect will be traced.
