Man suspected of defiling mentally ill granny arrested with a school teacher also detained for allegedly sodomizing a mentally ill man.
Detectives from the DCI have arrested a man suspected of defiling a mentally ill granny in Mwala, Machakos County.
In a statement via Twitter, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations said the suspect is alleged to have committed the crime on Tuesday night before fleeing into hiding.
“Joseph Muema, 45, is currently in custody following his arrest for the despicable act that shocked residents of Ikuuni village in Kindaruma Sub Location,” the DCI said.
According to the police report, the suspect sneaked into the 77-year-old victim’s bedroom where he committed the offense.
He was caught in the act by the victim’s son, who had gone to check on his mother at around 11:00 pm. He fled the scene into the night’s darkness.
“Luckily, the suspect had left behind his pair of trousers and akala (tire-made sandals), making it easier for the search team to trace him in the wee hours of the morning,” the DCI said.
Both the suspect and the victim were escorted to Mbiuni level 4 hospital where medical tests were conducted.
Test results allegedly confirmed that the victim was raped.
The suspect is currently in custody ahead of his arraignment.
Meanwhile, Kirinyaga police are holding a 43-year-old secondary school teacher for allegedly sodomizing a mentally ill man.
According to the police, the teacher was arrested on Tuesday for allegedly committing the crime in Sagana town.

The suspect is alleged to have lured the 25-year-old man with a bottle of beer which he spiked before committing the heinous act.
The victim who works as a car washer in Baricho town is said to have been picked up by the suspect on the day who offered to buy him a drink at Sagana town.
In a police report, the suspects described feeling drowsiness after a few gulps of beer.
After the incident, the suspect allegedly dumped the unconscious man at the Sagana River thinking he was dead.
The victim who was naked was found by women who were drawing water and later gained consciousness identifying the teacher as the offender.
