A man has been arrested after allegedly throwing his five-year-old niece from the third-floor balcony of an apartment in Jacaranda Gardens, Roysambu.
A man has been arrested after allegedly throwing his five-year-old niece from the third-floor balcony of an apartment in Jacaranda Gardens, Roysambu.
The young girl, Amanda Mutheu, later succumbed to her injuries while undergoing treatment at Kenyatta University Referral Hospital.
According to a statement released by the management of Jacaranda Gardens on Thursday, June 12, the incident took place in an apartment where the family resides.
“The family in question resides in C4-205, and the individual involved is Amanda’s uncle. The uncle, being intoxicated, created a commotion in the apartment where baby Amanda, the house girl, and the uncle were present,” the statement read.
The management noted that the situation escalated quickly when the uncle overpowered the house girl and snatched Amanda from her.
“The uncle of a powered the house girl and snatched baby Amanda from her. The house girl, sensing danger, ran out of the apartment screaming for help. Unfortunately, in a tragic turn of events, the uncle threw baby Amanda from the balcony,” the statement added.
The Jacaranda Gardens security team, along with concerned neighbours who responded to the screams, managed to subdue the suspect before police arrived.

“The management security patrolling the area, along with neighbours who responded to the screams, rushed to the scene. They were able to subdue the uncle and called the Kiamumbi police,” the statement continued.
Neighbours immediately transported Amanda to KU Referral Hospital, where she died from her injuries minutes after arriving.
Meanwhile, the suspect, who had been subjected to mob justice, was taken into police custody and escorted to the same hospital for treatment.
The case is now being handled by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI).
“Following this, a statement was taken from the house girl, and the case was referred to the Kahawa West Police Station. Kahawa West police responded promptly and took over the matter, proceeding to KU Referral for documentation.
“Kahawa West police called in the DCI, who are currently handling the matter,” the statement concluded.
