Residents of Koisagat village in Kericho County on Wednesday staged protests after the severed head of a middle-aged man was found in a sufuria in one of the houses.
The torso was later discovered in a thicket two kilometres away, with residents accusing a local businessman of orchestrating the murder.
The residents also accused the police of colluding with the suspect, who has been responsible for the wave of insecurity in the area.
Activities at Koisagat Market were suspended for the better part of the day as residents held prayers following the bizarre incident.
“Saa kumi na moja, mtoto akatoka kuenda kutoa sufuria ya chai kutengeneza chai, sasa akapata hiyo kitu kwa sufuria ya ugali. Alipata tu kichwa imeekwa hapo ndani. Sasa kuona, tukaaanza kupiga nduru,” said a resident, Jefferson Kirui.

Mark Too, another resident, added, “Huyo mtu hapa ashalala, ameuawa. Mwingine ako Kericho Referral Hospital, anaugua, mikono zote zimekatika…na ni jana jana tu the same same day hiyo tukio ikafanyika.”
The residents accused the security officers of negligence and collusion with a local businessman who is said to be behind the murder.
“Mtu anashikwa leo, akifika hapa Tintila, hata sidhani kama wanafika Fort Tenan. Unapata amerudi, anasema, ‘Mutanifanyia nini?’ Sasa kama mtu anasema ‘Mutanifanyia nini?’ si atamaliza watu hapa?” Brian Ngetich said.
Kericho County Commander James Ngetich on his part said, “Huyo jamaa tutammulika juu chini, mpaka chini ya maji, mpaka tumpate. Lakini nakuhakikishia, within the next two to three weeks, tuko na huyo jamaa.”
The body of the deceased has been moved to the Kericho County morgue.
