A teacher in Migori commits suicide at a school parade ground after he allegedly quarreled with his wife.

Students of a mixed and boarding Secondary School in Migori County were shocked to find one of their teachers dangling on a tree at their parade ground.

According to a statement released by police on Tuesday, September 12, the teacher allegedly got into a fight with his wife before going to a nearby bar.

The teacher is said to have returned to school after his drinking spree, where security personnel let him in not knowing he was about to commit suicide.

“He walked into the school compound at night, and went to the parade ground where he took his own life,” the police statement read in parts.

The body of the teacher was discovered in the morning as students prepared to start their lessons.

“Preliminary investigations revealed that he had quarrels with his wife before committing suicide. The teacher had been commuting from his rural home to school,” the police statement read in parts.

According to the police, the Secondary School teacher never went back home but was seen in the company of friends at the local market.

“Prior to that evening, he was seen making several calls possibly in arguments with his caller believed to be the wife who told him not to come home if he was drunk,” the statement claimed.

Police recorded statements from the students who discovered the body and school administrators who reported the matter to the police.

As part of the ongoing investigation, police officers are expected to visit the teacher’s home in order to record a statement with the wife.

His body was retrieved and transported to a public mortuary at Migori County Referral Hospital, awaiting autopsy.
