The unexpected discovery of a head teacher’s body in a borehole within his home compound has shocked the people of Kisii county’s Marani sub-county.
Known by his nickname, “Mwalimu,” Raphael Atemba had gone to Rikenye Primary School on Thursday, but according to his wife, he did not come home in the evening.
This prompted her to raise an alarm among close family members and neighbors to help search for him in the morning hours of Friday.

However, the residents were shocked the mutilated body of the head teacher was finally found inside a borehole within his compound in Nyakamba village.
Police retrieved the body as investigations were launched to find the cause of death and possible perpetrators.
Locals praised Atemba for his constructive role in the advancement of society, the church, and the school he oversaw.
“Mwalimu was a great man, he did his work diligently and was a leader in the region,” said John Omosa, a village elder.
