A woman is in police custody after being found living with the decomposing deceased husband’s body.

The 58-year-old woman was taken into custody on Thursday night after police discovered the rotting body of her husband inside their house in Sifa farm, Kitengela.

According to the police, the woman had been living with her husband’s body in their house.

Police stormed the house after neighbours informed them about the strange smell coming from the woman’s compound.

The officers forced their way into the woman’s house after she had denied them entry, and found the corpse lying next to her bed in her living room.

“The police went into the compound and found the woman alone. She looked sick, tired, and emaciated. She was actually shaking a lot,” said a source.

According to the neighbours, the woman alleged that she had kept the body waiting for its resurrection.

Neighbours said that the woman and her husband were members of a religious sect that restricted the consumption of foods, save for bananas and watermelons.

Also, the woman allegedly stayed indoors most of the time and did not have any communication with her neighbours.

The couple did not have children with the woman allegedly stating that her faith did not allow her to have children.

The woman was taken to Mathare Hospital for treatment and evaluation, while the body of her husband was taken to the City mortuary.

The deceased who hails from Nyeri is a former employee of Nairobi County who retired a few years ago, while his wife, a Tanzanian national, is alleged to have been a lecturer at a local university in Tanzania.
