Simba Arati issues demand over proposed UDA-ODM alliance

Kisii Governor Simba Arati has called on former Prime Minister Raila Odinga to pursue justice for those who were killed and injured during past protests amid talks of an ODM-UDA alliance

Kisii Governor Simba Arati has called on former Prime Minister Raila Odinga to pursue justice for those who were killed and injured during past protests amid talks of an ODM-UDA alliance.

Speaking in Busia County during the 20th Anniversary of the ODM Party on Friday, February 28, the ODM Deputy party leader insisted that the families of those killed and injured needed to be compensated.

He cited an example of a family in Kibera who was struggling after their kin was killed during a protest called by the opposition outfit.

According to Arati, the government needed to take responsibility for the police actions.

“Raila, as you continue with consultations, just make sure that we get justice for one thing. Those who were injured and killed should be compensated,” the ODM deputy party boss stated.

“When I was in Nairobi as an MP and we were protesting, I saw someone get shot by the police. Up to this day, the family is still struggling. If we are to work with the government, let them ensure that these families are compensated.”

Meanwhile, Arati warned ODM leaders of indiscipline amidst growing division in the party over the ODM-UDA alliance.

According to insiders within the party, some leaders are pushing Raila to form an alliance with President William Ruto ahead of 2027, while others push for Raila to join forces with Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka and former DP Rigathi Gachagua.

“Let us respect each other. I want to warn leaders against indiscipline. We shall deal with you. The party has to have order. Let us work together as we move forward,” Arati warned.
