Sonko announces plans to airlift baby Sagini, who had his eyes gouged out to China for advanced medical treatment.

Former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko expressed optimism for baby Sagini, whose eyes were gouged out by his cousin and aunt in Kisii county.

On Monday, December 19, Sonko detailed planning to fly the three-year-old to South China to get eye implants.

He added that he did extensive research to identify the top hospital in the world to handle the emergency situation of baby Sagini.

After doing extensive research, he discovered a Chinese hospital that performs eye implants, but it required the boy to obtain at least two recommendations from Kenyan hospitals.

“According to the Chinese doctors the eye implants will intriguingly help the boy with navigation sensors to allow him to get around on his own in familiar places,” Sonko stated.

He detailed that he had contacted relevant authorities from Kisii county, including the area MP to facilitate his transfer to a hospital in Westlands for assessment.

The former governor booked an appointment for baby Sagini with an eye specialist in Westlands on Wednesday, December 21.

“I also intend to engage the Nairobi County government to recommend an eye specialist from the Mbagathi Hospital to also do a separate review of baby Sagini and thereafter forward the two reports to China,”

The implants, however, are comparable to giving the youngster prosthetic eyes that will move and seem more like normal eyes without restoring his vision.

Sonko also provided a link to the facility that detailed previous successful eye implant procedures.

The former governor said that he did not serve for public relations reasons but rather out of a genuine commitment to find long-term answers to every issue he and his staff dealt with.

Sonko had initially offered a prize of Ksh400,000 to any policeman who would put an end to the perpetrators of the horrible conduct.

He added an extra Ksh200,000 reward to any public member who provided necessary information about the culprits to the police.
