Sonko rescues former Citizen TV journalist Kimani Mbugua again after relapsing
Former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko has rescued journalist Kimani Mbugua after he relapsed following his release from a rehabilitation center.
In a statement on Sunday, March 30, Sonko said he dispatched a team to locate Kimani, who found him in Thika’s Makongeni estate and brought him to his office.
Sonko noted that he engaged in an extensive counselling session with Kimani and decided to give him a second chance.
“Following reports that Kimani Mbugua has relapsed and gone back to the streets, today, I dispatched a team to locate him. He was found in Makongeni estate, Thika, Kiambu county.
“He was brought to our headquarters, where we are currently overseeing his well-being after providing him with new clothing and allowing him to take a refreshing shower. I engaged him in an extensive counselling session and decided to offer him a second chance,” Sonko stated.

The former Nairobi County boss also said that due to Kimani’s condition, he would not be flown to Mombasa but would be driven back to the Mombasa Women’s Rehabilitation Centre.
Sonko also said he would not involve Kimani’s family, but he would ensure that Kimani remains at the rehabilitation centre.
“Upon his full recovery, he will have the opportunity to work there, similarly to Conjestina Achieng, who has been discharged and offered a position to provide counselling services at the centre,” said Sonko.
He further emphasized that he is committed to ensuring that Kimani receives the necessary care and support for his full recovery.
This comes after videos of Kimani in a bad state emerged online, and netizens raised concerns about his well-being.
