Security forces neutralize five Al-Shabaab militants heading to Garissa on a suspected attack mission.
Five Al-Shabaab militants were apprehended and killed by Kenyan Special Forces (SOG) personnel on Saturday as they were traveling to the Fafi Constituency in Garissa County.
Four Al-Shabaab fighters were also captured by the security forces and are being subjected to intense interrogation.
Police also recovered some IED-making materials from the Al-Shabaab militant group.
“Kenyan forces recovered 2 PKM, 1 RPM, 6 AKs, and a number of IED-making materials. Additionally, telephone phones and SIM cards were also recovered,” a police source said.

“A quick exploitation of the phones has so far given important leads on a number of local AS facilitation network.”
The intelligence-led mission took the militants by surprise as they attempted to reportedly establish a temporary camp in the Fafi.
The successful outcome of the operation is attributed to the cooperation and timely information provided by local residents, for which the SOG officers expressed gratitude.
