SRC issues new salary directive for the incoming MPs, and MCAs
SRC issues a new salary directive for the incoming MPs, and MCAs after scrapping out car grants and allowances.
The car grants and allowances for Members of Parliament (MP) and Members of County Assemblies (MCA) who would take office after the August 9 elections have been eliminated by the Salaries and Remuneration Commission (SRC).
On Thursday, July 28, Chairperson Lyn Mengich made the announcement that the sitting and mileage allowances were also eliminated.
The new rules will also apply to all speakers and County Executive Committee Members (CECs).
“Sitting allowance for plenary sessions in Parliament and County assemblies is abolished and ceases to be payable,” Mengich stated.
She continued by saying that the commission was prepared for legal action from the legislators who had previously defeated a similar mandate in 2019.
SRC stated that it will defend its decision in court should the newly elected officials file lawsuits on the grounds that it issued the new direction before the MPs and MCAs reported at the office with new contracts.
