State House announces the recruitment of 30,000 teachers beginning of the next academic calendar.
It was said in a statement by State House Spokesperson Hussein Mohamed, dated Thursday, December 1, that the action was intended to solve the teacher shortage in schools.
The recruitment will take place before January 23, 2023, when schools reopen for a new academic year.
After meeting with the Presidential Working Party on Education Reforms, which was examining the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC), President William Ruto issued a statement through State House.
In the upcoming days, the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) is anticipated to provide comprehensive information regarding recruitment.
During the recruitment, priority will be given to tutors of Junior Secondary Schools.
“The Ministry of Education, Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development and the Teachers Service Commission will work on modalities of fast-tracking retooling teachers to ensure the country has sufficient numbers who are compliant with CBC.
“Government will recruit an additional 30,000 teachers by January 2023 to facilitate the transition and bridge the teacher shortage,” read the statement in part.
In addressing infrastructural challenges in schools, the government also announced plans to construct classrooms and laboratories in all schools in the country.
This is in addition to CBC classrooms constructed by President Uhuru Kenyatta’s administration in secondary schools.
“Members of Parliament are asked to work towards providing support for the extra facilities.
“Meanwhile, primary schools neighbouring secondary schools will share the laboratories and other facilities with junior secondary schools,” read the statement in part.
