Raila Odinga accuses the state of funding criminals to invade his rallies after Azimio, and UDA supporters clashed in Kisii

Raila Odinga accuses the state of funding criminals to invade his rallies after Azimio, and UDA supporters clashed in Kisii.

Azimio Coalition leader Raila Odinga has condemned attacks on his supporters following the party’s Friday anti-government rally in Kisii county.

Raila has alleged that “UDA operatives working with State officers and well-known criminals” were responsible for the attacks.

He insisted that youths who attended Friday’s anti-government at the Gusii Stadium were victims of the attack.

“Azimio La Umoja One Kenya Coalition party strongly condemns the incident in which UDA operatives, working with State officers and well-known criminals invaded villages in Kisii, hacked people, and destroyed property. The victims in this attack were youth who attended the very peaceful Azimio rally in Kisii on Friday,” read a statement released on Saturday.

“That the attackers were led by a well-known jail-bird and hard-core criminal with several warrants of arrest to his name, is an indication that we are back to rule by thuggery and hooliganism,” he said.

The Azimion leader called for action to be taken against the individuals, failure to which his supporters would be forced to protect themselves in the best way they can.

He added that anyone who has an issue with the Azimio rallies should face them instead of their supporters.

“We call on UDA operatives who have issues with Azimio’s meetings to face us, the leaders, and leave alone our innocent and peaceful supporters, he said.

The skirmishes broke out near Ram Hospital along Daraja Moja-Nyamataro bypass after several youths who had filtered out of Kisii County Assembly engaged the UDA youth with stones.

A police officer in riot gear also suffered slight injuries on the back after he was pelted with a stone.
