DP Gachagua accuses Azimio of sabotaging war against drug abuse in Mt Kenya for taking Wajackoyah in the region

DP Gachagua accuses Azimio of sabotaging war against drug abuse in Mt Kenya for taking Wajackoyah in the region.

Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua is now accusing Azimio la Umoja of trying to sabotage his fight against drug and substance abuse in Central Kenya.

Gachagua during an appearance on Inooro TV on Sunday, June 11, 2023 claimed that it is regrettable for the opposition to accompany former presidential candidate George Wajackoyah on their excursions to Central Kenya owing to his stance on drugs.

The DP stated that Wajackoyah, who supports the use of bhang, poses a threat to ongoing efforts and should therefore avoid the area at a time when the region is dealing with a drug and alcohol crisis.

“This is my appeal to Narc party leader Martha Karua.. please stop tagging along Wajackoyah in your tour to Mt Kenya region due to his stand on drugs(bhang). He is taking us steps back in the fight against substance abuse,” Gachagua stated.

In addition, Gachagua dismissed ongoing chatter about him being sidelined by President William Ruto and consequently being bypassed by Chief Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi.

He added that working on matters affecting the Mt Kenya region including the fight against alcoholism, coffee, milk and tea cartels are of more importance to him currently.

“I have heard people saying that Musalia is doing my job. That he is the one going to Nigeria while I have been handed the ordinary job of fighting alcohol and drug abuse. I told the president to leave me here in Kenya to fight alcoholism and drug abuse,” Gachagua said.

According to Gachagua, any trip outside the country must be about resource mobilisation and not just attending ceremonies.

Ile safari mimi ntaenda ni ile ya kutafuta kitu. Kwenda tuu kuona rais mpya akiapishwa mimi ntarudi na nini? Mimi sina haja. (The only trip I’ll attend should be about resource mobilisation. If I go to see a new President being sworn in what do I bring back? I do not need it.) ,” he said.
