Sudan general, Yasser Al-Atta dares Ruto to a fight after accusing Kenya of supporting Rapid Support Forces (RSF).

In a blatant escalation of hostility that has been simmering for months, Sudan Armed Forces General Yasser Al-Atta has dared President William Ruto to engage the Kenyan Defence Forces (KDF) in combat with his forces.

In a video posted online, General Al-Atta made fun of Ruto and warned him not to join East African forces engaged in a joint operation in the volatile Eastern Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).

Rapid Support groups (RSF), which have been engaged in combat with other groups for control of Khartoum after the fall of the transitional government, are alleged by the Al-Atta faction to have received funding from the Kenyan president.

RSF is headed by Mohamed Hamdan ‘Hemedti’ Dagalo, who the Yasir unit has accused of being a close ally of the Kenyan president.

“The state (Kenya) that supports you (RSF) and the mercenaries like you with money must also bring its army… leave the East African forces and come with your army to intervene and we are waiting for you,” Al-Atta stated.

The Sudan general had earlier rejected Ruto as the mediator of the ongoing conflict after he was appointed by Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD).

Instead, SAF has requested that Salva Kiir Mayardit, the president of South Sudan, lead the mediation team.

The General also objected in his speech to an East African army stationed in Khartoum and entrusted with guarding civilians and aid workers as the war dragged on.

However, the Joint Chief of Staff of the East African Standby Forces (EASF, Osman Abbas, has ruled out the deployment of EASF forces to Sudan.

In a statement issued, Dr. Abbas said that the EASF regulations prohibit the deployment of forces to a country without the consent of its government.

The Rapid Support Forces (RSF) are supported by an undisclosed Gulf nation, according to the military authorities of Sudan.

General Alatta noted that the army’s ultimate goal was to preserve a united Sudan “free from the Janjaweed menace.”

He stressed that they do not aspire to govern, instead, the political forces have to reach an agreement and govern the country.

“Sudan is not a game of every unscrupulous politician, profiteer, and mercenary,” he added.
